Holy cow!! This will need some cautious testing. Those gentle trolls may have became savage beasts suddenly...

I only wonder about how often monsters will be using their skills. Are they like us, where they have a set amount to use and have regen rates? Because there is no way players can constantly be battling monsters who have infinite skills when we do not....

I believe we're in the beta to test it :)ยก

Judgement by the Fallen:
Spirit I prayed for Cause Damage (SL 57) to Kurilia : hit
Damage dealt to Kurilia: 0 Magical HP
Spirit II prayed for Cause Damage (SL 42) to Sir Helm : hit
Damage dealt to Sir Helm: 0 Magical HP
Spirit III attacked Kurilia : missed
Spirit IV prayed for Cause Damage (SL 54) to Kurilia : hit
Damage dealt to Kurilia: 0 Magical HP
Spirit V prayed for Cause Damage (SL 33) to Sir Helm : hit

I think this does not work well. Monster Skill Cause damage is always zero

So far I've seen a mix of specialty attacks and general attacks from the beasties. I've become diseased (but I got better). I did get 1 shot by an elder troll but that is to be expected sometimes; I did notice that he seemed to be hitting for 500-600 damage on average instead of the 1000+ he was hitting for previously.
Oh and 1 nice unadvertised bonus is 1 free health and 1 free energy refill per day at the temple :)

Zab
April 2nd, 2013, 23:26
In the monster's descriptions, will you please add any specialty skills they have, especially if they are not ones that any guild has and what we can expect from them when used? I see spiders can 'web' players.

Orik, I wanted to reply to you because by your comment, I do not think you understood my concern. Maybe no one else does either, so I would like to present myself clearer.

As an example: Once ambushes come, Party A could potentially wear out the energy reserves of Party B, if they can attack them over and over again. Today, in this house, we ran a few Quests in my daughter's account. We did Spiders in the Woods on Hard. During every single battle the spiders used their skill set. Over and over again. Long after players would have ran out of energy themselves.

With monster's having skills that are infinite, it means players must get on to heal more often. That is not always possible for real life. When ambushes come, I think this becomes a problem. I think players must have a way to minimize the damage monster make. If a player is using their energy up, then monsters using skills should too. I think this should happen if a particular quest is done repeatedly by a player or party, in a timely fashion.

Zab

Having just done the Spiders in the Wood quest again, I would like to share some of the results. The party my daughter belongs to usually can do this quest with about 5%-10% overall damage to the party.

Results from Turn 1
Spider Queen I cast Spiderweb (SL 34) on xxxxxxxxxxx
Player 3 became Webbed for a maximum of four turns. (-25% DEF. Cannot submit actions apart from drinking potions.)
Player 4 became Webbed for a maximum of four turns. (-25% DEF. Cannot submit actions apart from drinking potions.)

Results from Turn 2
Giant Spider II cast Spiderweb (SL 13) on xxxxxxxxxxxx
Player 3 Poisoned (DAM +52)

Results from Turn 3
Giant Spider I cast Spiderweb (SL 24) on xxxxxxxxxxxx
Player 3 became Webbed for a maximum of four turns. (-25% DEF. Cannot submit actions apart from drinking potions.)
Giant Spider II cast Spiderweb (SL 21) on xxxxxxxxxxx
Giant Spider III cast Spiderweb (SL 15) on xxxxxxxxxxxx
Player 4 became Webbed for a maximum of four turns. (-25% DEF. Cannot submit actions apart from drinking potions.)...........

The Spiders also used Paralyzing Toxin on players during these rounds, along with more Poison in the next following two rounds. The party ended up with 2 dead players.

After doing the quest several more times:

I never once saw a spider deal a regular attack. Each attack was a skill.
Skills by spiders were used in every single round.
The priest is out of energy and can no longer heal or revive players, despite the fact the priest was often paralyzed for four turns.
The front line would have died every time without a priest present.

Scenerio: Player 1 logs in and throws a quest and kills two of his teammates. He is not a priest. He feels like a jerk. He logs out.
Player 2 logs in and sees two of his teammates dead, throws a much lower quest, but some monster's skill takes out another player. He isn't a priest either. He logs out.
Player 3 logs in, he is not a priest, he sees three of his teammates dead. He knows the three dead won't be logging in until they are done their workday. He logs out.

Now, I realise the quest was on Hard and that you still have to work out numbers, but still....... making the basics of this game harder only leads to frustration because when players log in, they will not be able PLAY. You will have people logging in and logging back out. Something must be rewarding in this game. Most of us rely on the fact leveling is the reward. Under conditions like this, if no one can play, leveling is probably not going to happen very often. Once you get used to logging in and then out because there is nothing to DO, it becomes really easy to not bother logging in at all.
I feel like making the questing harder than before this update is just not a good idea.

Why don't you let everyone in a party pay at the temple to heal all other party members. Actually make gold useful!

Gold will become more useful again when ambushes are implemented, I think, Stephen.
However, I think if monsters have skills something needs to be done. These are the things I came up with before bed.

I already mentioned the 'wearing' down of monster's energy reserves.

or

Vitality for players regenerating at much faster rates (I'm talking to full every 4-6 hours)

or

Monsters do not ever use skills on easy quests, monsters occasionally use skills on medium quests, monsters use skills once every 1-2 quests on hard.

Thank you for copying the combat logs, they are being very useful. We will make daily updates to fix broken skills, for instance, later today or tomorrow in the morning we will fix skills with 0 damage (actually they are the ones marked as cries, prayer or spells as mosnters have not defined bonuses to these sort of skills....yet ;) we will give them a 0% bonus but it's open to increase some of them in the future ) Thank you as well for all your suggestions.

Also –for all english-speakers,– please let us to know if you found a grammar mistake or wrong sentence structure on the logs. In a week we will have the rewards screen with the results of the combats and the combat logs available after the combat.

If the community realize that it's a problem the devs will surely work something out...
I understood what you meant :) I also believe as a player this might become a problem but as ambushes aren't implanted it's not one at the moment.

Not Dead Yet Medium:
Necromancers are not doing much.

Not yet :9 they cast summon spells (raise dead) but the summon skills are not still active, later they will raise more zombies and skeletons.

The drain life spell is just like the human version: everybody loose life and the total amount lost is the amount the caster heal. We must resolve if 1- the skill is too low or 2- the necromancer is using the skill at a too low level.

Isildur, how is going your life draining? ;)

Looks like the Captain uses to skills in one round. Both Defense Orders and Parry.

Yes, it is a "cry" skill. Players (fighters) may also perform a standar attack when they use an offensive cry (or a standard defense when use a defensive cry). Other monsters skills are also considered cry, as the werewolf's howling.

On the other hand, their effect last only for the current turn when these skills are "shout" (the effect is instantaneous).

Why don't you let everyone in a party pay at the temple to heal all other party members. Actually make gold useful!

This one and other features in this style ?use healing skills out of combat, set different default actions for inactive players, execute turns when all online players have submmited, etc.? have not discarded, and some of them has been even approved. But we must study carefully their effects and some of them must be well "counterbalanced" as these kind of features don't encourage being online and, above all, they may benefit clones and bots, the main reason of not having them implemented from the beggining.

With monster's having skills that are infinite, ....

Actually, monster energy is not infinite, and the spend energy when they use skills, even when they use natural skills such as regeneration or disease/poison attacks, which would be considered passive skills. This way even passive skills are measured by energy attribute, and they will count for the experience got by defeating them. When they use their skills for some turns, they will run out of energy and they won't use more skills, even natural skills will be gone.

Of course, when a new quest is launched, energy is refilled as well as their vitality, and this fact is being couted in the XP given for defeating them.

How does one Parry or Block a Fireball? Shouldn't those skills only work on physical damage?

In our understandings, you should be able also to avoid/dodge/block/take cover for bolts, fireballs, etc. For not to make the system more complex, we extend this principle also for cause damage, dinive punishment, etc.

Above all, we must watch also for playability and we think that it is nice to have the chance to do something against direct damage spells.

Alex says:

Our energy is not refilled unless we pay for it or use a potion. When ambushes come, other player's energy will not refill unless they do the same thing. So, occasionally seeing a monster drink a potion and knowing every 24 hours, they too get a free full energy recharge would be ok, but to have their energy refilled every quest is ....not really cool, Alex :(

Alex says:

Fireballs are pretty tough, Alex. I have seen crazy damage scores from them. I think they need to be adjusted. :) because right now: you may be successful in blocking them, but then who on your team is doing the attacking? :)

About healing, it's costs, etc. Maybe instead of giving us a free heal for ourselves daily, you could let us heal one of our teammates daily. Or maybe that can be another advantage of being Guild Master. Maybe they could hand out a few free heals a day.
Skills really need to be balanced for lower leveled players right now, particularly those level 20 and under. What were once simple quests are bringing whole teams to an unplayable point with just one quest. Level 20 is still a fairly new player, so the amount of loss feels pretty high.
This is a message I received on my wall:

My party just tried Curse of the Werewolf on easy - last time we did this, we took maybe 10-20% damage to the party. Now the werewolf has skills, we have 21% party health left.

My daughter's party of players approaching level 50, had to go three pages backwards to find a quest on Hard they could do without taking damage and it is one they are currently turning yellow on. Maybe that is how you want it, I do not know ;)

Here is some info from When Love Is Not Enough Easy. The fireball happened in the last (second) round. The party started with almost full health. This party could once do this quest on Medium with 5-10% damage to whole team. This is their vitality scores at end of the quest.

When Love is Not Enough at difficulty easy

Once and Future King
Thief
Velocity: 4 Health: 40 % Size: 21

Aleeria
Illusionist
Velocity: 2 Health: 33 % Size: 18

Fog
Rogue
Velocity: 2 Health: 36 % Size: 17

Gregg
Disciple
Velocity: 4 Health: 46 % Size: 16

Swaggert
Thief
Velocity: 4 Health: 20 % Size: 15

Jinx Mahoney
Fighter
Velocity: 2 Health: 60 % Size: 14

Then they do the old mainstay: Lone Highway Man on Hard. This was a safer quest before. One that could be thrown and damage taken was seldom. One player heals and throws the quest and this is the vitality scores after that quest:

Once and Future King
Thief
Velocity: 4 Health: 40 % Size: 21

Aleeria
Illusionist
Velocity: 2 Health: 0 % Size: 18

Fog
Rogue
Velocity: 2 Health: 36 % Size: 17

Gregg
Disciple
Velocity: 4 Health: 100 % Size: 16

Swaggert
Thief
Velocity: 4 Health: 0 % Size: 15

Jinx Mahoney
Fighter
Velocity: 2 Health: 60 % Size: 14

Results like these are not really encouraging play for lower leveled and powered players. 2 dead, after 2 quests.

Just a post to comment on the overdoing of monster skills, particularly on difficulty "easy" quests. I threw "The Magician of the Caves" (easy) a few minutes ago - everyone in the party was on full health except the cleric on 88%.

1st round:
Ogre-Mage I fired a Power Missile (SL 194) at Camilla (ATT +970) : hit
This left the cleric on 45-50% health. (SL 194 - thats awfully high for a monster with no followers - I dread to think how much gold he spent getting that skill level ... )
2nd round:
No idea what his attack was as we killed him. Presumably he was wired with C4 judging by the mayhem caused:
I was reduced to 83%
The fighter was reduced to 58% and the Cleric 0%.
Of the other scouts in the party, 1 was 39% a second 36%, and the third 0%.

You earned 1387 XP during the fight.
I'll re-iterate : this was a quest on easy, one we've thrown numerous time and taken 5-10% damage max.

Unfortunately, I'm now in the position of not really being able to do anything until several people in different time zones log-on and heal. I can appreciate the need for feedback / combat logs, but setting the skills at this level is driving players away. Victorious Coffee aside - https://www.guildmasters.com/Game/Party.aspx?IdParty=3277 - the xp earned in the last week amongst players is almost in free-fall.

It's a bug. Should be fixed in next update.
